What Cross-Workspace Chat Does

Cross-workspace chat lets two workspaces message each other after an Interchange chat request is approved.

Use it when the data sharing relationship needs follow-up questions, missing document requests, or coordination between organizations.

How Chat Starts

  1. A workspace sends an Interchange request and includes chat.
  2. The target workspace reviews the request.
  3. The target workspace approves the request.
  4. A chat connection becomes available between the two workspaces.

Chat is not active while the request is pending.

When To Use Chat

Use chat for:

  • Asking a participant to clarify missing financial data.
  • Following up on a compliance item.
  • Coordinating with a subcontractor during prequalification.
  • Discussing why a request was sent.
  • Resolving questions before approving a request.

Do not use chat as a replacement for formal approvals, contracts, or compliance records.

Manage Chat Connections

Chat connections appear with other active Interchange connections. A chat connection cannot be paused like a data connection. Remove it when the relationship should end.

Removing a chat connection disables your workspace's chat relationship with the peer workspace. The peer may still need to remove the relationship from their side.

Request Guidance

Include chat when you expect discussion around the request. If the request is routine and the other workspace already understands the data requirement, chat may not be necessary.
